ARRIVE makes an impact at ESC
| |
Aspirin Cardio made a major impact at this year’s European Society of Cardiology Congress (ESC) in Vienna with the announcement of the start of ARRIVE, one of the largest clinical studies ever conducted to assess the benefits of Aspirin in reducing heart attacks and strokes in people who have not experienced such an event before, but are considered to be moderately at risk of doing so.
On 3 September Bayer HealthCare ran an on-site press conference for journalists attending the congress, involving presentations from some of the cardiologists involved in the study. This was extremely well attended, attracting around 60 journalists from over nine different countries, representing both specialist and consumer publications, including national newspapers. Resulting coverage is still in the process of appearing, but has included stories in two of the UK’s leading national newspapers, the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail, representing a combined circulation of over three million.
Later in the day Bayer HealthCare ran a satellite meeting covering the same information in more detail for attending delegates. This was also extremely successful, attracting around 350 participants with a lively interactive session at the end.
The impact from the two events combined should ensure that ARRIVE is now well and truly recognised by healthcare professionals and patients alike, who are now eagerly awaiting results!

"After five years the external data monitoring board asked that we terminate the study because of a striking, very extreme benefit of aspirin. Aspirin® reduced the risk of a first heart attack by 44 percent, and this was quite an earthshaking finding at that time."
