Cardiac Protection
The cardioprotective effect of Aspirin® has been widely proven in the following conditions:
  • coronary heart disease
  • acute myocardial infarction
  • following myocardial infarction for secondary prophylaxis
Coronary heart disease tends to take a milder course in patients using ASA and it is relatively rare for it to culminate in a myocardial infarction. ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) is the major active ingredient in Aspirin Cardio®.

In acute myocardial infarction, we have to distinguish between patients who are already taking ASA when they suffer an infarction and those who are not given ASA until after the event. In the first case it is associated with a milder infarction; in patients who are not already using ASA, the focus is on enhanced survival rates: ASA reduces mortality impressively after acute myocardial infarction in new users, when administered during the first 24 hours after the event.

Patients, who are having a heart attack who are given ASA, have a reduced risk of a second heart attack, a reduced rate of stroke and an improved survival rate.

Since cardiovascular disorders are more common in old age, elderly people are more likely to benefit from prophylactic administration of Aspirin®. Among younger people, those with vessel disease are likely to benefit most from preventive use of Aspirin Cardio®.
